2016 Rising Star Award Caribbean presented at CHRIS

2016 Rising Star Award

Miami, FL (May 18, 2016):  Upon receiving the award, this year’s Rising Star Award Caribbean recipient, 33 year-old General Manager Pedro Javier Tomas Contreras of Dreams Palm Beach Punta Cana by AMResorts, commented “I am thrilled to be recognized by ISHC and BHN and am receiving this award on behalf of my entire team.”

Pedro worked his way up from Rooms Division Manager to help elevate the Dreams Palm Beach Punta Cana to the high performing resort it is today. As a local, he is very involved in the community, consistently interacts with guests and is focused on leading and developing his staff.

The Rising Star Award Caribbean was presented to Pedro at the Caribbean Hotel and Resort Investment Summit (CHRIS) on May 11, 2016 at the JW Marriott Marquis in Miami, FL. This is the sixth year the International Society of Hospitality Consultants (ISHC) and Burba Hotel Network (BHN) have joined together to recognize emerging talent in the region at CHRIS.

“We are very pleased to be able to shine a spotlight on the ‘future’ of the tourism industry in the Caribbean with the annual Rising Star Award. The nominee list in 2016 was stellar and bodes well for the future on the hotel/tourism industry in the Caribbean. When the judges reviewed the candidates and voted, Pedro Tomas rose to the top as he is truly an exceptional executive” said Jim Burba, President, BHN.

“It is important to ISHC to encourage young talent in the Caribbean region – a region that depends on the hospitality industry and receives visitors from around the world. We are excited to present the award to Pedro who has made such an impact on the success of his resort and is involved in the community,” said Andrea Belfanti, ISHC Executive Director.

The Rising Star Award Caribbean was established in 2011 in partnership with Burba Hotel Network (BHN) and the International Society of Hospitality Consultants (ISHC) to recognize and encourage emerging talent in the Caribbean region for the advancement of the hospitality industry. Nomination criteria requires a candidate to be 35 years of age or younger, currently living in the Caribbean, working in a hospitality-related field and recognized in the industry as a rising star.
